Live cattle futures fell by 35 to 85 cents on Wednesday, with cash activity remaining slow and no sales reported in the Fed Cattle Exchange auction for 1,356 head, starting bids at $245. In contrast, feeder cattle futures gained 30 cents to $1.40, although the CME Feeder Cattle Index dropped by $2.44 to $370.75 on July 7.
Wholesale boxed beef prices also declined, with Choice boxes down $4.57 to $381.20 and Select boxes down $2.80 to $363.09. USDA’s estimated federally inspected cattle slaughter for Wednesday was 108,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 318,000 head, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week and 32,028 below the same week last year.
Notable closing prices on August 26 include Live Cattle at $237.625 (down $0.800), and Feeder Cattle at $362.050 (up $1.400).
