Cattle Market Shows Overall Gains in Friday Trading

**Live Cattle Futures Update**

On Friday, June 26 live cattle futures are trading at $253.500, down $0.500, with feeder cattle futures reflecting gains of up to $1.00. Cash trade kicked off this week between $250-252, peaking at $256-257 on Wednesday. USDA reported a federally inspected cattle slaughter of 110,000 head on Thursday, bringing the weekly total to 434,000 head, which is an increase of 9,000 head from the previous week but down 32,454 head compared to the same week last year.

In related news, the APHIS reported a total of 1,647 active cases of new world screwworm in Mexico as of Wednesday, with 132 cases in Tamaulipas, 11 in Nuevo Leon, and the first case noted in Coahuila. Meanwhile, wholesale boxed beef prices showed a decline, with Choice boxes at $389.29 (down 24 cents) and Select at $386.52 (down $1.65).
