**Live Cattle and Feeder Cattle Futures Update – August 25, 2023**
Live cattle futures experienced losses ranging from $1.77 to $2.17 on Friday, with cash trade increasing. USDA reported light northern sales between $378-380 dressed and live action priced at $238-240, while southern trades were recorded at $237-238. Feeder cattle futures also faced midday losses between 35 cents to $2.60, with the CME Feeder Cattle Index down $3.55 to $365.52.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices rose in the Friday morning report, with Choice boxes increasing by 31 cents to $368.69 and Select boxes up 66 cents to $356.35. The USDA reported a federally inspected cattle slaughter of 109,000 head for Thursday, bringing the week-to-date total to 433,000 head—up 3,000 from the previous week but down 29,283 from the same week last year.
