Cattle Prices Continue to Rise on Tuesday

Live cattle futures saw gains between $2.32 and $4.20 across most contracts on Tuesday, April 24, 2023. Cash trade for cattle last week averaged around $246 per hundredweight, with late sales peaking at $248. In related markets, feeder cattle futures increased from $1.30 to $4.20, while the CME Feeder Cattle Index rose to $369.34.

Wholesale boxed beef prices declined: Choice boxes fell by 38 cents to $389.18, and Select dropped $1.31 to $387.29. The USDA reported federally inspected cattle slaughter at 106,000 head for Monday, reflecting a rise of 9,000 head from the previous week and an increase of 1,733 head compared to the same week last year.
