Live cattle futures gained between $1.70 to $1.92 at midday on August 25, with prices for August contracts reaching $231.650. This morning’s Fed Cattle Exchange online auction sold 215 out of 1,526 head offered at $237, primarily from Texas and Kansas. Feeder cattle futures also rose, with contracts up $1.15 to $1.40.
The USDA reported a decrease in wholesale boxed beef prices, with Choice boxes down $1.14 to $363.05 and Select boxes down 49 cents to $341.99. The Chc/Sel spread narrowed to $21.06. Estimated cattle slaughter for Tuesday was 113,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 221,000 head, which is an increase of 4,000 from last week but 15,899 lower compared to the same week in 2024.
