Cattle Prices Decline Again on Turnaround Tuesday

On Tuesday, October 26, live cattle futures declined by 45 cents, closing at $218.775, while feeder cattle futures fell 20 cents to $337.275. Open interest rose by 1,267 contracts for live cattle and 428 contracts for feeder cattle. Cash trade has been quieter this week as feedlots compile showlists.

Wholesale boxed beef prices increased, with Choice boxes up $2.54 to $378.89 and Select boxes rising by $2.08 to $358.75. The USDA estimated federally inspected cattle slaughter at 105,000 head on Tuesday, bringing the week-to-date total to 210,000, which is 1,000 lower than last week and 19,195 below the same week last year.
