Live cattle futures dropped 45 cents to $2.55 at the Tuesday close, with cash trade remaining quiet as feedlots compiled showlists. Feeder cattle futures also fell, down 20 cents to $3.55. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was reported at $338.74, down 71 cents on September 21.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices showed an increase, with Choice boxes rising by $2.54 to $378.89 and Select boxes up $2.08 to $358.75. The USDA estimated federally inspected cattle slaughter for Tuesday at 105,000 head, bringing the week-to-date total to 210,000 head—1,000 head below the previous week and 19,195 head lower than the same week last year.
