Cattle Prices Decline Amid Increased Pressure on Friday

Live cattle futures declined by $1 to $1.20 as of Friday morning, with cash trade prices between $220 and $345. The Fed Cattle Exchange auction reported dressed sales of $342 for 40 head and $223 for 174 head. Feeder cattle futures fell by 97 cents to $1.30, while the CME Feeder Cattle Index decreased by 80 cents to $333.47 on August 26.

In a move to address what he described as a “powerful monopoly,” President Trump announced plans to authorize legal documents that would enable farmers and ranchers to process their own food, aiming to reduce regulatory barriers. No specific details were provided on the implementation.

According to USDA estimates, Thursday’s federally inspected cattle slaughter totaled 105,000 head, raising the weekly total to 415,000, which is an increase of 6,000 head from the previous week but still 50,423 head below last year’s figures. Boxed beef prices showed mixed results, with Choice boxes at $376.39 (down $4.97) and Select boxes at $362.00 (up $2.81).
