Live cattle futures experienced mixed trading on Tuesday, with prices ranging from an increase of 15 cents to a decrease of 10 cents. As of last week, cash trade prices settled at $238-240 in the northern markets and $237-238 in the South. Feeder cattle futures saw losses between 25 cents and $2.45, while the CME Feeder Cattle Index decreased by $3.49 to $356.22.
Wholesale boxed beef prices also fell, with choice boxes down $3.19 to $366.91 and select boxes down $1.22 to $354.23. The USDA reported a federally inspected cattle slaughter of 103,000 for Tuesday, contributing to a total of 205,000 for the week, which is 11,000 head lower than the previous week and 14,487 head below the same week last year.
