On Wednesday, live cattle futures rose by 42 cents to $2.07, with no deliveries on June futures. Cash trade registered light $402 dressed trade in the north, while feeder cattle futures increased by 15 to 82 cents. The CME Feeder Cattle Index decreased by 14 cents to $368.06.
In a significant development, Mexico suspended imports of cattle from the US late Tuesday due to a rise in screwworm cases. US exports to Mexico for 2025 are recorded at just 11,110 head. Additionally, Wednesday’s USDA reported a federally inspected cattle slaughter of 105,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 316,000 head, which is down 4,000 from the previous week and 24,480 head lower than the same week last year.
