Live cattle prices were steady to $1.40 higher on Thursday, June 26, with December contracts down $0.10. Cash trade recorded very light volume, with $260 live and $408 dressed reported in the north on Wednesday, and some bids at $255 on Thursday. The Fed Cattle Exchange auction showed no sales for the 1,636 head offered, while feeder cattle futures increased by 37 to 85 cents at closing. The CME Feeder Cattle Index rose by $6.03 to $381.86 as of June 24.
Weekly Export Sales data revealed 21,268 metric tons of beef sold for 2026 during the week ending June 18, marking the second-largest weekly total this year, while shipments increased to 13,048 metric tons. Cold Storage data indicated May beef stocks at 403.474 million pounds, down 1.06% from last year and 0.49% from April. USDA estimates for federally inspected cattle slaughter on Thursday were approximately 109,000 head, totaling 433,000 head for the week, which is a 7,000 head increase from the previous week but 18,966 head lower than the same week last year.
