Cattle Surge to Record Contract Highs

Live cattle futures increased by $1.67 to $1.95 at Monday’s close, with cash trade pricing in Kansas at $230-231 and $240-242 in the northern markets. Feeder cattle futures rose by $3.50 to $3.70, with the CME Feeder Cattle Index climbing to $325.80 on July 18. An online auction in Oklahoma City sold 4,500 head of feeder cattle, recording prices $4-8 higher, while feeder heifers remained steady to $3 lower, and calves saw a rise of $5-10.

The USDA’s Monday PM report indicated mixed trends in wholesale boxed beef prices, with Choice boxes down $1.48 at $372.07 and Select down $1.44 at $350.05. Estimated cattle slaughter for Monday was 105,000 head, decreasing by 7,000 head from the previous week and 8,887 head lower compared to the same week in 2024.
