Chinese Automakers Set Their Sights on Ford’s Profitable Segment

Chinese carmakers are rapidly increasing their presence in Europe’s passenger car market, doubling their market share to 6% last year and aiming for 9.4% by March 2026. Unlike passenger vehicles, these automakers can introduce electric vans in Europe without facing additional European Union tariffs.

In response, Ford is launching the Transit City, a compact van built in China through its joint venture with Jiangling Motors Corp., with a price point of £29,000 compared to the E-Transit Custom’s £45,510. This move is a direct counter to Chinese competitors entering the light commercial vehicle segment, as changes in emissions regulations are pushing for quicker electric vehicle adoption in Europe.

Ford Pro, the company’s commercial vehicle division, is projected to generate between $6.5 billion and $7.5 billion in earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) by 2026, significantly outperforming Ford Blue’s and its Model e division’s expected results.
