NRG Energy, Inc. has signed a multi-year agreement with Sunrun, enabling NRG’s retail electricity brand, Reliant, to provide Sunrun’s solar-plus-storage systems to Texas homeowners. This initiative aims to integrate residential battery storage into a virtual power plant, enhancing grid reliability when electricity demand peaks.
As Texas experiences rapid economic and population growth, the partnership allows NRG to meet rising electricity demand without the need for new power plants, targeting a collective 1-gigawatt (GW) virtual power plant by 2035. Over the past year, NRG’s shares have surged 70.9%, outperforming the industry’s 20.5% growth.
