Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage, Inc. (NGVC) reported a year-to-date stock increase of 20.8%, outperforming Village Super Market, Inc. (VLGEA), which rose 15.3%. Natural Grocers operates 169 stores across 21 states, targeting health-conscious consumers with natural and organic products. In contrast, Village Super Market operates 34 stores mainly in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, offering a wider grocery assortment.
As of now, NGVC has a trailing enterprise value-to-sales (EV/sales) ratio of 0.51, above its five-year median of 0.35. Meanwhile, VLGEA stands at 0.22, above its five-year median of 0.15. Both ratios are significantly lower than the retail sector average of 1.71.
Natural Grocers plans to open 6-8 new stores and remodel 2-3 others in fiscal 2026, aiming for an annual growth rate of 4-5%. This expansion aligns with increased consumer demand for organic and wellness products, positioning NGVC favorably for long-term growth compared to Village Super Market, which focuses on modernization and digital growth but lacks the same aggressive expansion strategy.
