SpaceX IPO Performance and Historical Context

Space Exploration Technologies Corp (NASDAQ: SPCX), known as SpaceX, made its public debut last month, achieving the largest initial public offering (IPO) in history by market cap. However, the stock has seen a downturn of nearly 21% since hitting its peak on June 16.

According to FactSet Research, eight of the ten largest U.S. IPOs have underperformed the S&P 500 since their listings, lagging by a median of 127 percentage points. The S&P 500 ETF remains a more stable long-term investment option amid this volatility, especially as SpaceX has yet to turn a profit and faces significant uncertainties in its business model.
