Amazon Imposes Fuel Surcharge Amid Rising Oil Prices

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) will implement a 3.5% fuel surcharge effective April 17, impacting its Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) services in the U.S. and Canada, as well as Remote Fulfillment in several countries. The surcharge will extend to additional services, including Buy with Prime and Multi-Channel Fulfillment, starting May 2. This increase aims to offset rising costs as the company transfers some burdens to third-party sellers, while Amazon Prime customers will remain unaffected.

In 2025, Amazon’s third-party seller services generated $172 billion, accounting for 24% of total revenue. Though overall company revenue grew by 11% over the past year, concerns exist regarding potential sales downturns due to increased costs. However, Amazon Web Services (AWS) remains a strong revenue source, growing by 24% during the same period and significantly contributing to the company’s operating income.
