Corn Prices Rise at August’s End amid Deteriorating Conditions

**Corn Futures Update – September 1, 2023**

Corn futures concluded August with contracts rising by 1 to 3.5 cents. The CmdtyView national average cash corn price increased by 3.5 cents to $4.93. As of August 30, 62% of the U.S. corn crop had reached the dough stage, with the same percentage dented and 13% mature. Overall condition ratings remained steady at 47% rated good to excellent.

According to the Export Inspections report for the week ending August 27, corn shipments totaled 1.496 million metric tons (58.9 million bushels), reflecting a 13.11% increase from the previous week and a 6.12% rise year over year. Mexico was the leading destination at 510,453 metric tons, followed by South Korea and Japan. The marketing year total of corn exports now stands at 83.81 million metric tons, 25.14% above last year’s figures as the marketing year ends today.

In Brazil, AgRural reports that the 2025/26 second corn crop is 96% harvested in the center-south region, trailing last year’s figures, while 11% of the 2026/27 first corn crop has been planted.
