As of Friday, October 13, corn futures are up by 2 to 2.5 cents, with the December futures at $4.23 3/4 and the national average cash corn price at $3.81 1/4. The average close of December futures has been $4.18, which is lower than the February price of $4.70 but higher than last year’s harvest price of $4.16.
Harvesting continues across much of the Western Corn Belt, although rain in the Eastern Corn Belt is expected to slow progress and may impact river levels along the Mississippi. Meanwhile, the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange reports that Argentina’s corn crop is 29.9% planted, which is ahead of the same time last year and the average pace.
