Cotton Futures Experience Modest Gains Amid Mixed Market Conditions

Cotton futures saw midday increases ranging from 4 to 9 cents on Thursday as external market influences played a role. Notably, crude oil futures decreased by $0.26 per barrel, while the US dollar index rose by 0.158.

USDA Reports Show Cotton Export Challenges

The USDA’s Export Sales data indicated that cotton bookings reached 188,909 running bales (RB) for the week ending January 30. This figure marks a 4-week low, representing a significant decline of 32.63% from the previous week and 33.5% compared to the same period last year. Turkey was the primary buyer, purchasing 49,700 RB, closely followed by Pakistan with 44,300 RB. Meanwhile, shipments totaled 221,058 RB, reflecting a 44% increase from last week, yet still down 11.05% from the same week in 2024. Vietnam emerged as the top destination with 58,900 RB sent, while Pakistan received 36,400 RB.

Market Indicators and Cotton Prices

The Seam reported 5,660 bales sold online on February 5 at an average price of 57.54 cents per pound. As of Wednesday, ICE cotton stocks remained stable at 218 bales of certified stock. The Cotlook A Index rose by 100 points to 78.05 cents per pound on February 5. Additionally, the USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) increased by 31 points last week, now standing at 54.02 cents per pound; this figure will be updated later today.

May 25 Cotton is at 67.27 cents, marking a gain of 7 points.

July 25 Cotton is priced at 68.43 cents, showing an increase of 9 points.
