Cotton Prices Remain Elevated on Wednesday

Cotton futures are trading up 76 points, with October prices at 65.33 cents/lb. as of September 2. The US dollar index rose by $0.367 to $97.980, while crude oil futures decreased by $1.69.

The latest NASS Crop Progress report indicates that 90% of the US cotton crop is setting bolls as of Sunday, trailing the 93% average. 28% of the crop’s bolls are opening, behind the 30% average pace, with condition ratings down 3% to 51% good/excellent.

A total of 279 bales were sold on Tuesday at an average price of 64.03 cents/lb., while ICE cotton stocks remained steady at 15,474 bales on September 2. USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) fell by 59 points last week to 54.94 cents/lb.
