Cotton prices experienced Friday morning losses, dropping between 10 to 33 points after a rally on Thursday where December futures briefly surpassed 90 cents. Key futures closed higher, gaining 304 to 329 points. In related commodities, crude oil rose by $1.31 per barrel, while the US dollar index increased by $0.001.
For the week of August 20, 2026/27 cotton export sales totaled 95,726 running bales (RB), marking a significant 46.62% decrease compared to the same week last year. Notable buyers included Vietnam, which purchased 19,000 RB, and Guatemala with 14,400 RB. The week also saw shipments of 181,025 RB, 60.69% higher than the same week in 2022, with Vietnam being the top destination at 47,900 RB.
On August 26, the Seam reported sales of 96 bales at an average price of 80.26 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index fell by 60 points to 97.60 cents, while ICE certified cotton stocks remained unchanged at 66,327 bales. The Adjusted World Price increased by 190 points to 71.52 cents per pound. Current cotton futures include October at 91.06 (down 33 points), December at 92.41 (down 17 points), and March at 94.40 (down 23 points).
