Cotton futures saw significant gains on Friday, closing with increases ranging from 53 to 112 points, with December contracts up 181 points for the week. In other commodities, crude oil prices rose $3.21 per barrel, while the US dollar index increased by $0.016.
According to the latest Commitment of Traders report, managed money speculators reduced their net long position in cotton futures and options by 799 contracts, bringing the total to 52,410 contracts for the week ending Tuesday. Export sales data indicates that accumulated cotton exports reached 12.032 million running bales (RB), accounting for 102% of the USDA’s projections, with 10.908 million RB shipped, or 93% of the USDA forecast.
As for specific cotton contracts, October closed at 80.5 cents, up 109 points; December closed at 81.79 cents, up 112 points; and March 2027 closed at 83.36 cents, up 111 points. The Cotlook A Index decreased by 100 points to 88.75 cents.
