Cotton Futures Surge as Export Sales Hit Record Highs
Market Conditions Mixed Amid Rising Dollar and Crude Oil Support
Cotton futures experienced gains ranging from 11 to 20 points on Thursday, buoyed by strong Export Sales data. In broader market conditions, the US dollar index rose by 414 points, reaching its peak in over a year. Additionally, crude oil prices provided some support, with futures increasing by $1.40 per barrel.
The latest Export Sales report revealed that upland cotton bookings for the 2024/25 season totaled 318,516 running bales for the week ending November 14, marking a record high for the marketing year. Notably, Vietnam emerged as a key buyer, purchasing 141,600 running bales, while Pakistan followed with 55,300 running bales. Furthermore, an additional 16,016 running bales were sold for the 2025/26 season. The shipments totaled 148,215 running bales, ranking as the third-largest for the marketing year. Vietnam topped the list of destinations, receiving 26,100 running bales, closely followed by Pakistan’s 25,700 running bales.
On November 20, The Seam reported 5,442 bales in online sales, averaging 64.93 cents per pound. ICE cotton stocks remained stable on Wednesday, holding at 13,274 bales of certified stocks. On November 2, the Cotlook A Index saw an increase of 25 points, reaching 79.70 cents per pound. Meanwhile, the USDA Adjusted World Price (AWP) was revised downward by 229 points on Thursday afternoon, settling at 55.91 cents per pound.
Mar 25 Cotton closed at 70.43 cents, up 15 points.
May 25 Cotton closed at 71.65 cents, up 14 points.
Jul 25 Cotton closed at 72.8 cents, up 15 points.
