Cotton Prices Surge This Monday

On Monday, cotton futures experienced gains of 110 to 160 points across most contracts. The most notable contracts included July 26 cotton at 86.33 cents, up 160 points, and December 26 cotton at 86.62 cents, up 116 points. Crude oil prices rose by $3.63, reaching $99.04, while the US dollar index increased by $0.046 to $97.830.

In the week ending May 5, managed money added 12,829 contracts to their net long position in cotton futures and options, bringing the total to 51,184 contracts—marking the largest net long position since April 2024. Meanwhile, the Cotlook A Index dropped 100 points to 92.80 cents, and ICE certified cotton stocks rose by 89 bales to a total of 182,221 bales.
