Cotton Prices Surge to New Highs on Thursday

Cotton futures experienced significant gains on Thursday, with July contracts rising by the 3-cent limit to 82.20 cents per pound, while May contracts increased by 552 points to 82.38 cents per pound. The USDA’s Export Sales report showed that 162,879 running bales (RB) of cotton were sold for the 2025/26 marketing year in the week ending April 23, marking a 3-week high and a 56.61% increase from the same period last year. Additionally, shipments reached 384,608 RB, the highest in 5 weeks.

In related market data, the US dollar index fell by $0.782 to $98.040, and crude oil prices dropped by $2.75 to $104.13. The Adjusted World Price for cotton rose by 365 points to 65.26 cents per pound. ICE certified cotton stocks remained unchanged at 165,681 bales as of April 29, with 1,524 bales sold on that date at an average price of 76.04 cents per pound.
