On October 6, 2023, October NY world sugar #11 closed down -0.03 (-0.19%), while October London ICE white sugar #5 dropped -3.00 (-0.61%). This decline follows the Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association’s request to export 2 million metric tons (MMT) of sugar for the 2025/26 season.
Brazil’s Center-South sugar output increased by 16% year-on-year in early August to 3,615 MMT, but cumulatively for the 2025/26 season, production is down 4.7% year-on-year, totaling 22.886 MMT. The International Sugar Organization forecasts a global sugar deficit of 231,000 MT for 2025/26, despite a projected increase in global production of 3.3% to 180.6 MMT.
In India, the 2025/26 sugar production is expected to rise by 19% to 34.9 MMT, attributed to larger cane acreage and favorable monsoon rains, which have been reported at 826.2 mm as of September 10—8% above normal levels.
