Microsoft Corporation Draws Interest from 18 Hedge Funds in Latest 13F Filings

At Holdings Channel, we’ve examined the most recent 13F filings for the reporting period ending on December 31, 2024. A significant observation highlights that Microsoft Corporation (Symbol: MSFT) was included in the portfolios of 18 of these funds. When multiple hedge fund managers show similar interests, it prompts a closer examination.

It’s crucial to note that 13F filings capture only the long positions of funds, as they are not obligated to disclose their short positions to the SEC. Therefore, a fund may hold a bearish position by shorting calls, but still maintain a long position in some shares. This long position might appear bullish in a 13F filing, although it only represents a part of the overall strategy, since the bearish side remains hidden.

With that in mind, analyzing groups of 13F filings can offer valuable insights, particularly when comparing different reporting periods. Below is an overview of the changes in MSFT positions from the latest group of 13F filers:

In terms of share ownership, three funds increased their MSFT positions from September 30, 2024, to December 31, 2024. In contrast, five funds reduced their positions, while eight funds established new positions.

Looking at the broader picture, we calculated the total MSFT share count held by all funds that reported their holdings as of December 31, 2024. We compared this with the total share count from September 30, 2024. During this period, the funds increased their holdings by 157,766,949 shares, rising from 5,175,378,372 to 5,333,145,321, which marks an increase of approximately 3.05% in aggregate share count.
