Meta Platforms Inc Sees Increased Hedge Fund Interest in Latest Filings

At Holdings Channel, we have analyzed the most recent batch of 13F filings for the reporting period ending December 31, 2024. Our review indicates that Meta Platforms Inc (Symbol: META) was held by 12 hedge funds. When multiple hedge fund managers exhibit similar investment patterns, it prompts a closer examination of those holdings.

It is crucial to understand that 13F filings do not provide a complete picture. These funds are required to disclose only their long positions to the SEC, leaving out their short positions. For example, a fund might take a bearish stance by shorting a stock while simultaneously maintaining a long position, which could appear bullish in a 13F filing. Thus, while a fund may show long holdings, it does not fully convey the fund’s overall market sentiment.

Despite this limitation, examining groups of 13F filings allows for valuable insights, especially when comparing different holding periods. Below, we detail the changes in META positions for the latest group of 13F filers:

From September 30, 2024, to December 31, 2024, eight of the funds increased their META positions, while four reduced their holdings.

Looking beyond just these funds, we aggregated the total number of META shares held by all funds reporting at the 12/31/2024 period (from a total of 7,963 funds analyzed). We compared this to the total shares held back on September 30, 2024, to assess how hedge funds’ aggregate holdings of META have shifted. The analysis reveals that funds collectively boosted their positions by 46,352,625 shares, raising the total from 1,636,890,008 to 1,683,242,633. This represents an approximate increase of 2.83% in shares held. The top three funds holding META as of December 31, 2024, were:

We will continue to monitor recent 13F filings from hedge funds and share insights derived from analyzing aggregate data across different periods. Although individual 13F filings can sometimes mislead due to their long-only nature, observing trends across groups of funds can be more revealing, offering valuable investment considerations in stocks like Meta Platforms Inc (Symbol: META).
