Hedge Fund Activity: VBR Shows Increased Positions in Recent 13F Filings

Recent analysis of the 25 most recent 13F filings for the 03/31/2025 reporting period reveals that the Vanguard Index Funds Mid-Cap Value Index VIPER Shares (Symbol: VBR) was held by 14 hedge funds. When multiple hedge fund managers converge on a similar holding, it warrants further investigation.

It is crucial to note that 13F filings only capture long positions, leaving out short positions, which can provide a misleading picture. A fund might take a bearish stance by shorting calls while still holding a long position. This dual approach means that while a fund might appear optimistic through its 13F filings, the full context—including bearish positions—may remain hidden.

Changes in VBR Positions

With that in mind, examining collective 13F filings can be insightful, especially when comparing different reporting periods. For the latest round of 13F filings, we noted that five funds increased their VBR positions from 12/31/2024 to 03/31/2025, while four funds reduced their holdings.
