Market Snapshot: Calmer Yields Boost Stocks
On Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.89%, the Nasdaq Composite increased by 0.70%, and the S&P 500 gained 0.68% as the bond market showed signs of stabilization, with the 10-year Treasury yield hovering around 4.7%. This was a welcome change after a week of volatility, allowing stocks, particularly in the crypto sector, to rebound. Notably, Robinhood’s shares surged by 11.9%, and Coinbase’s rose by 9.2% amid a 5.9% increase in Bitcoin.
Tesla also performed well, climbing roughly 4% due to news regarding Nevada’s approval of up to 5,000 robotaxis and the upcoming launch of the Tesla Semi in Europe, despite facing its largest recall of around 3 million vehicles in China. This week was characterized by elevated long-term yields, the highest since before the 2008 financial crisis, influenced by increased corporate borrowing and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
