Lean hog futures are experiencing losses of 40 to 60 cents at midday, while April futures remain steady ahead of their Wednesday expiration. The USDA reported the national base hog price at $90.26 on Tuesday morning, an increase of $1.03 from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index fell by one penny on April 10 to $90.27.
Additionally, the USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose by 38 cents to $99.52 per cwt. The estimated federally inspected hog slaughter on Monday was 492,000 head, which is 125,000 head above the prior week and 7,334 head more than the same week last year.
