Uber Technologies (UBER) and WeRide (WRD) have launched fully driverless, fare-charging robotaxi services in Dubai, marking one of the first deployments of Level 4 autonomous vehicles in the city. This initiative aligns with Dubai’s goal of achieving 25% autonomous journeys by 2030. The service operates without a safety driver across select routes in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim.
The rollout follows a successful pilot program that started in December 2025, leading to the issuance of a driverless vehicle trial permit by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in February 2026. Future expansions are planned in key transport and logistics areas, including Dubai Silicon Oasis and Nad Al Sheba, under RTA supervision.
This deployment not only enhances Uber’s autonomous vehicle strategy in a major international market but also strengthens its partnership with WeRide, as both companies aim to advance the global autonomous mobility landscape. Uber plans to integrate autonomous vehicle technology into its platform, enhancing operational data and user experiences while maintaining its role as a leading mobility provider.
