Key Facts

Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX) is set to expedite the deployment of natural gas turbines, potentially reducing wait times by up to 18 months. This initiative is part of their development of a foundry in Bastrop, Texas, to manufacture turbine blades and vanes in-house, addressing significant delays in gas turbine production that affect the AI infrastructure.

The foundry could allow SpaceX to meet its goal of establishing 10 gigawatts (GW) or more of terrestrial data centers by the end of 2027. Analyst estimates suggest that, through turbine purchase agreements, Musk could secure an additional 3 GW to 4 GW of power by then, boosting SpaceX’s capabilities in AI and data center operations.

Additionally, the foundry may later provide components for SpaceX’s Raptor rocket engine turbopumps, illustrating a dual benefit that reinforces the company’s vertical integration strategy. This development is poised to ease the power constraints hindering AI computing hardware, potentially accelerating revenue generation for investments in high-capacity GPUs and data centers.
