Technical Complexity Unveiled Musk articulated on X, “Complexity per unit mass is much higher with humanoid robots…but still, I think it ends up costing less than half of a car.”
In response to Sam Korus, the research director at ARK Invest, Musk concurred that the primary obstacles to scaling humanoid robots lie in software proficiency rather than production hurdles.
Significance Unpacked Musk’s affirmations coincide with his earlier enthusiasm during Tesla’s Q4 earnings call in January, where he expressed optimism regarding the rollout of Optimus next year.
While Musk hinted at the probability of shipping Optimus units in the upcoming year, he tempered expectations by highlighting the prevalent uncertainties. He prophetically noted, “I do think it has the potential to be the most valuable product of any kind ever by far.”
Tesla debuted its humanoid creation in 2021, aiming to delegate hazardous, repetitive, or monotonous tasks to the robot.
Previously, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas postulated the colossal market potential for Optimus, citing their capacity to supplant the global workforce. With the global labor market valued at around $30 trillion or approximately 30% of global GDP, Jonas hinted at the vast opportunities.
