Evaluating Western Digital’s Free Cash Flow for Continued Buybacks and Dividends

Western Digital Corporation (WDC) reported significant financial improvements entering fiscal 2027, with operating cash flow increasing 132% year over year to $3.93 billion and free cash flow rising 145% to $3.51 billion in fiscal 2026. The company generated $12.9 billion in revenue and returned $3.1 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases.

In the fiscal fourth quarter alone, Western Digital achieved $1.4 billion in operating cash flow and $1.3 billion in free cash flow, with a free cash flow margin of 34%. The company had a net cash position of approximately $500 million at the year-end, holding $1.6 billion in cash against $1.1 billion in debt.

For the first quarter of fiscal 2027, Western Digital expects revenue of $4.1 billion, with gross margins between 55-56%. The management projects a non-GAAP EPS of $4.00, plus or minus 15 cents, based on an estimated 388 million diluted shares. The company is set to ship its 44-terabyte HAMR product in the first half of calendar 2027.
