Amazon Web Services (AWS), owned by Amazon, has entered a multi-year partnership with South Africa’s Absa Group, solidifying AWS’s position as Absa’s preferred cloud provider as of October 2025. This partnership aims to enhance AWS’s market share in emerging cloud markets amidst increasing competition from Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.
AWS’s second-quarter 2025 earnings report showed a revenue increase of 17.5% year-over-year, totaling $30.9 billion. This growth, however, lags behind Azure’s 39% and Google Cloud’s 32% growth rates. AWS maintains a 30% share of the global cloud market, despite a year-over-year decline of 2 points. In response, AWS plans to open 10 new Availability Zones and 3 additional Regions in Chile, Saudi Arabia, and Europe to bolster its global presence.
Looking ahead, AWS projects its sales will increase by 18% year-over-year, reaching $126.9 billion by the end of 2025. The global cloud computing market is forecasted to hit $1.9 trillion by 2030, growing at a 18.7% compound annual growth rate.
