X-Energy Advances Nuclear Reactor Development with AI

X-Energy (NASDAQ: XE) is leveraging artificial intelligence to expedite the development of its Xe-100 small modular reactors, aimed at addressing increasing energy demands. The company, which went public in April, has become a founding member of Project Prometheus, alongside major players like Nvidia and Amazon. The initiative has secured $60 million from the Department of Energy, with X-Energy contributing an additional $10 million and its proprietary data. The project pipeline includes plans for 144 reactors with a capacity of approximately 11.5 gigawatts.

Key collaborations include Dow Inc. for a four-reactor project in Texas, and Amazon’s backing of a project with Energy Northwest that could support over 5 gigawatts by 2039. X-Energy has also reported a 154% year-over-year increase in Q2 revenue, totaling $54.6 million, largely stemming from development activities. Despite this growth, the company is still not profitable and faces challenges such as lengthy construction timelines and regulatory requirements in achieving commercial deployment.

As of June, X-Energy’s total liquidity stands at $1.9 billion with no debt, positioning it well to advance its nuclear initiatives. However, the execution of building and operating these reactors remains a significant risk factor for investors.
