Meta Platforms Launches Paid Social Media Tiers
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) has announced the global rollout of paid subscription tiers for its main social media platforms—Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The new service, called Plus, will cost $3.99 per month for both Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus, while WhatsApp Plus will be available for $2.99. The announcement came on [specific date if available].
Currently, Facebook boasts nearly 3.1 billion monthly active users, with 2.1 billion users accessing the platform daily. While no estimates for subscription uptake were provided, the potential revenue increase from even a small percentage of users opting for these tiers could significantly boost Meta’s profitability.
These new offerings expand on earlier testing of subscription models and do not replace the existing Meta Verified service, which focuses on identity protection and verification.
