Market Update: Nasdaq Leads Gains

On Wednesday, the Nasdaq Composite is experiencing significant gains, up over 2%, primarily driven by major tech companies Nvidia, Apple, and Microsoft, which account for 26% of its total weight. The S&P 500 is showing similar positive movement, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average lags behind, still remaining in the green.

Nvidia is up more than 2% ahead of its Q4 2026 earnings report, Apple has increased by 2% due to the expansion of its manufacturing facilities in Houston, and Microsoft has risen approximately 2.5% after positive statements about OpenAI as a client. In contrast, the Dow sees these three tech giants contributing only 10.6% of its index weight as it is affected more by stock prices than market capitalization.

Goldman Sachs leads Dow performance, gaining around 3%, while IBM’s shares increased by 7% despite a 7% decline over the last week. The Dow has a heavy reliance on stock prices, making its performance and composition distinctly different from the tech-heavy Nasdaq and S&P 500.
