On Wednesday, live cattle futures increased by 42 cents for June but fell by 15 to 75 cents for other contracts. The Fed Cattle online auction reported no sales from 1,466 head offered, with one lot bid at $400 dressed. Feeder cattle futures also showed late strength, closing up 37 cents to $1.97. The CME Feeder Cattle Index rose by 2 cents to $364.02.
The USDA is set to release Cattle on Feed data on Thursday, with expectations that May placements will decrease by 5.5% year-over-year. Marketings are anticipated to drop by 10.6% compared to 2025, while June 1 cattle on feed is projected to be 2.5% larger than last year. Wednesday’s USDA estimated cattle slaughter was 109,000 head, with a weekly total of 317,000, which is 1,000 more than the previous week but 15,258 fewer than last year.
