Ford’s Mustang Mach-E Outpaces Gas-Powered Version in Sales
Unprecedented Milestone: Last year, Ford Motor Co. F achieved an important milestone by selling 51,745 Mustang Mach-E SUVs in the U.S., surpassing the sales of its traditional gas-powered Mustang for the first time since the electric model launched in late 2020.
Sales Breakdown: Initially, Ford sold just three units of the Mach-E in the final quarter of 2020. However, total Mustang sales for that year reached 61,090 units. From 2021 onward, while Mach-E sales steadily increased, the sales of the gas-powered Mustang declined, culminating in last year’s historic achievement.
Year | Mustang Mach-E Sales | Mustang Sales |
2020 | 3 | 61,090 |
2021 | 27,140 | 52,414 |
2022 | 39,458 | 47,566 |
2023 | 40,771 | 48,605 |
2024 | 51,745 | 44,003 |
Market Importance: The Mustang Mach-E belongs to Ford’s expanding lineup of electric vehicles, which also includes the F-150 Lightning pickup and the E-Transit electric van. In total, Ford sold 97,865 electric vehicles in 2023, making up just 4.7% of its total vehicle sales for the year. Despite this modest percentage, the company continues to offer a wide range of combustion engine vehicles, including popular models like the F-Series trucks and the Explorer SUV.
