Worksport Drives Amazon and Walmart Expansion

Amid Ford’s decision to trim the output of its electric F-150 pickup, the Lightning, Worksport, a pickup tonneau cover maker, is boldly defying the EV slowdown. Worksport announced today its plans to expand its B2B dealer network in the U.S. and Canada, making its innovative products available on Amazon.com Inc, eBay, and Walmart marketplaces. Meanwhile, the EV giant, Tesla Inc, remains steadfast despite acknowledging upcoming challenges.

Worksport Aiming For Pickup Market Dominance

Worksport recently launched its first ‘made-in-the-USA’ AL3 PRO hard-folding tonneau cover, setting new standards in pickup truck accessories. Compatible with various truck models such as Ford’s F series, RAM and Jeep by Stellantis, General Motors’ brands GMC and Chevrolet, Nissan Motor Co Ltd, and ToyotaMotor light trucks, Worksport aims to expand its market reach, including the Honda Motor Co Ltd Ridgeline. The AL3 cover, boasting durability, functionality, and style, is now available on the Worksport e-commerce site and heading to Amazon, eBay, and Walmart. The company aims to kick off sales in early February, tapping into the estimated $3 billion tonneau cover market amidst 60 million pickup trucks on the roads.

GM And Ford Navigate EV Cutbacks

In a surprising move, General Motors postponed the opening of its $4 billion electric truck plant in Michigan, while Ford reduced the production of F-150 Lightning EV trucks by half. Ford’s recent decision to shift focus back to gas-powered vehicles and express dissatisfaction with the Biden Administration’s emission rules left many questioning the future of EVs. Ford is still optimistic about growth in global EV sales but anticipates slower progress than initially expected.

Stellantis Forges Ahead With EV Production

Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, affirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to EV production, acknowledging that the pace of EV adoption may be influenced by this year’s US and European presidential elections. However, Tavares emphasized that global warming would not halt the push for electric vehicles. Stellantis is geared up to launch its ram 1500 Rev and its plug-in hybrid peer Ram 1500 Ramcharger later this year.

Tesla Overcomes Challenges to Fuel EV Growth

While Tesla faces production challenges, the company is accelerating the production of its Cybertruck at its Austin, Texas factory. Elon Musk also confirmed plans to commence production of its next-generation mass-market EV at this facility during the second half of 2025, followed by a facility in Mexico and another factory outside North America later this year. Tesla has been lowering vehicle prices in Europe and China, removing barriers linked to high prices, and addressing driving range anxiety and charger availability.

With Worksport’s expansion plans and titans like Amazon and Walmart making their mark in the EV universe, the evolution of EVs is on an undeniable upward trajectory. As Stellantis’ CEO noted, when it comes to EVs, the only options are moving faster or slower, but there’s no stopping the future in the making.
