Ford reported a 31.4% decline in electric vehicle (EV) sales in Q2 2023, with deliveries dropping from 23,957 units in 2022 to 16,438 units. The decline was attributed to a recall affecting the Mustang Mach-E due to a software glitch and factory shutdowns for model year 2025 preparations. The recall impacted over 317,000 vehicles globally.

Ford sold 5,842 F-150 Lightning trucks, a 26% decline year-over-year, while Mustang Mach-E sales fell 19.5% to 10,178 units, and E-Transit sales plummeted 87.7% to 418 units. The automaker is shifting its strategy to focus on affordability with plans to introduce a new lineup of EVs starting below $30,000 by 2027.

In contrast, General Motors saw a 111% increase in Q2 EV sales with a 16% market share, bolstered by strong sales of its Chevrolet models, while Tesla faced a 14% decline in deliveries, totalling 384,122 vehicles.
