Apple Set to Launch Foldable iPhone in September
Apple is reportedly on track to launch a foldable smartphone in September 2023, as indicated by recent leaks referencing foldable features in the beta code of iOS 27. Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the upcoming foldable iPhone will be available in just two colors. This move positions Apple to capitalize on the growing foldable smartphone market, which is projected to grow 30% in 2026 according to IDC.
Currently, Apple holds a 21% share of the global smartphone market, just behind Samsung’s 21.2%. Notably, Apple’s shipment growth was 4.4% year-over-year compared to Samsung’s 2.9%, despite an overall smartphone market decline of 2.9%. The anticipated foldable iPhone will be priced at $1,999, targeting a niche but lucrative consumer base, potentially boosting Apple’s earnings growth beyond the expected 17% this fiscal year.
