General Motors Issues Recall for 43,732 SUVs Due to Transmission Software Problem

General Motors (GM) has announced a recall of 43,732 full-size SUVs from the 2022 model year due to a defect in the 10-speed automatic transmission. The defect involves premature wear of the transmission control valve, leading to potential internal fluid leaks, rough gear shifts, and an increased risk of rear-wheel lock-up. This recall is particularly critical as it affects models including the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon, and GMC Yukon XL.

The recall affects 17,178 Chevrolet Tahoe, 7,616 Chevrolet Suburban, 2,239 Cadillac Escalade ESV, 3,609 Cadillac Escalade, 7,820 GMC Yukon, and 5,270 GMC Yukon XL vehicles. GM began investigation into this issue in November 2025 after a crash linked to the transmission lock-up was reported. To remedy this, dealers will install updated transmission control module (TCM) software at no cost to owners. The revised software aims to detect valve wear up to 10,000 miles earlier than previously possible.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by March 30, 2026. All 2023 and newer full-size SUVs are already equipped with the updated software. Affected vehicle owners are encouraged to check their VIN in the federal recall database to confirm inclusion in the recall.
