As of today, May NY world sugar #11 (SBK26) has decreased by $0.29 (-2.09%), while May London ICE white sugar #5 (SWK26) is down $5.80 (-1.37%). This decline comes as NY sugar reached a 5.5-year low amid forecasts for abundant global sugar supplies, including a predicted surplus of 3.4 million metric tons (MMT) in the 2026/27 crop year, following an 8.3 MMT surplus in 2025/26.

The International Sugar Organization (ISO) forecasts a global sugar production increase to 181.3 MMT in 2025-26, with significant contributions from countries like India, Thailand, and Pakistan. The Indian National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories reported a 9% increase in sugar production for 2025-26, totaling 27.12 MMT, while Brazil’s sugar output for the same period was noted to increase by 0.7% year-on-year to 40.25 MMT, also adding downward pressure on prices. Cheers to these saturation levels, sugar export quotas from India have been adjusted, including an additional 500,000 MT approved for export this season.
