As of today, May New York world sugar #11 (SBK26) has decreased by 0.11 cents (-0.79%) to a five-week low, while May London ICE white sugar #5 (SWK26) fell by 1.30 pounds (-0.31%). These declines are attributed to signs of abundant global sugar supplies, with India confirming there are no plans to ban sugar exports this year, easing prior concerns.
Recent reports indicate that India’s sugar output for the 2025-26 season is projected to rise by 9% year-on-year to 27.12 million metric tons (MMT). Similarly, Brazil’s Center-South sugar production has increased by 0.7% to 40.25 MMT. Analysts forecast a global sugar surplus of 3.4 MMT for the crop year 2026/27, following an 8.3 MMT surplus in 2025/26, driven by rising production in India, Thailand, and Pakistan.
