Ford and GM Truck Inventory Showdown
Ford’s F-Series inventory has decreased over 40% since a fire at the Novelis aluminum plant last year, leading to reduced truck availability. This presents a strategic opening for General Motors (GM), which is planning to ramp up production of its Silverado and Sierra trucks to capitalize on Ford’s weakened inventory position.
As of Q1 2026, GM reported a 9% decline in pickup truck inventory compared to the previous year. Despite its own inventory issues, the company aims to increase production and address demand while preparing for the launch of redesigned models later this year. Analysts predict GM could capture significant market share in full-size trucks during Q2 2026.
