Berkshire Hathaway Boosts Alphabet Investment

Berkshire Hathaway, under CEO Greg Abel, expanded its investment in Alphabet by $17 billion during the second quarter, bringing its total stake to approximately $36.6 billion. This includes a $10 billion private placement of shares directly from Alphabet, reflecting a strategic shift in investment approach.

This investment now marks the third-largest position in Berkshire’s stock portfolio. Abel’s confidence may stem from recognizing the positive impact of AI on Berkshire’s subsidiaries, indicating a potential long-term value in Alphabet’s infrastructure spending.

While both Alphabet and Apple are considered “Magnificent Seven” stocks, Abel’s distinct approach suggests a departure from the traditional investment philosophy attributed to Warren Buffett, focusing instead on the operational benefits AI can bring to Berkshire’s broader business strategy.
